So mission 1 has been accomplished! We went to a Charity Gala last night in Atlanta to promote Couture Affairs Atlanta. This event was a huge success. All proceeds went to the Georgia Center for Children Advocacy to help children escape from violent lifestlyles. The event raised a lot of money from the silent auction. The great part for me was that we were able to help the cause and promote our business. We auctioned a one hour photo session! Another part of the mission was for publicity...and we got it! Jezebel Magazine was in the house and took our photos to go in the next issue!!! I'm so excited!
Ok so I am really excited today, I am working with a pr manager to fully launch my business and market to the elite people of Atlanta Miami and Boston. I'm going to hold out on details but I will be posting a press release when we are ready to launch. What I will tell you is that the business name is Couture Affairs and its going to make me a local celebrity IT girl! Ahhhh I can't wait. Oh we still are looking for a web designer so hit me up if you know a good one.
The corporate world can be so cut throat and superficial. It's like an all inclusive beauty pagaent. Everyone smiles and waves and then manipulates their advances behind the scenes. You can't just be excellent in your job anymore. It's an exposure contest. Who do you know, what execs know you? The more high powered people you are friends with the further you go. I try to play along but as the great Sinatra said, "I'll do it my way! "
I had lunch yesterday with an Jr Exec and my boss. The goal was mentoring me and networking. What is mentoring but bragging about one's accomplishments and giving hope and inspiration to the minions. So in those terms it was a sucess. I was in awe of her accimplishments and great innovative ideas. We laughed at the cliches of it all and the superficialty of our meeting. To be honest... I was inspired. It gave me more drive to get where I want to be. But in the end, I still don't know where I want to go in the company. The thing I'm sure of is being on top! My favorite position : )
Here is a topic atown mariah and I discussed. Can you truly be friends with the opposite sex. In most cases, well at least in the beginning its fine. But what happens when one finds the other attractive or if one catches feeling? Is it ok to continue to be friends? Do the rules still apply if you are married, engaged or in a relationship?
Another day flown by. It started at 5 in the morning. My little prince now seven months old, wanted to eat. It seems like as he gets older he tries harder to be like his big brother D who hates to sleep . Well I fed him and went back to sleep for a nano minute before the alarms bell tolls.
On I went, woke up ran around like my hair was on fire. In theory pressing snooze 5 times makes sense in a tired stooper but in actuality its crazy. You think, hey I can sleep five more minutes...it won't take me long to get ready...yeah right! Well I made my way into TBC (real name emitted it order to keep confidential, let just say a major television broadcasting Comany). Yup that's where I work! I love it! Ok well I walk in like any other day and walk right passed Dr.Right, TBC's resident medical expert/news anchor! The Dday buzzed by... almost worked through lunch. BF Atown Mariah walked with me to get lunch. Ok that's not her real name or official code name. We are working on names. Ok so we talk inbetween work All day. We came up with a great blog discussion...friends of the opposite sex. More on that in another blog. Now in sake of saving time, I rushed out of the office to meet HUBBY for ten minutes before school. Yup I'm also a full time student. I have a year or so and then another 3 years of law school. Classes got out at 9 and yet again I'm running somewhere else...home...finally. 14 hours later. I come home to one kid up and one asleep. Of course, life is always playing with you like that. Now after an hour they switch. The baby is asleep and my wanna be suphero 4yr old D is still up. I hope I can get at least 6 hours of sleep, THANK GOD for starbucks...mmm dreams of grande 5 pump white chocolate mochas. Nighty night!
